OMG finishing my blog 3

 My robot was constructed using the lego mindstorms NXT kit set and i also used the mindstorms NXT software to program my robot to do the things that i wanted it to do. i tried all sorts of different ideas to make my robot the ideal competitor. I decided on using two wheels on each side because i thought this would have maximized grip and cornering abilities. My robot had no trouble turning around it was the going straight because sometimes the cords could sometimes get tangled around the wheels so i wrapped them around the ultrasonic sensor and also made sure that they wouldn't obscure my robots vision. 


another problem that showed it self was the ultrasonic sensor that couldn't target the opponent as easily as they could target me. i tested the range and i made improvements by alteri
ng the programming a little bit. i decreased the range and increased the charge speed i then tested it with some targets on the ring and this worked because it was easier for the robot to see them so i stuck with the programming for that.





The wheels were a little bit of trouble because they would catch onto each other and wouldn't work properly so i distanced each wheel further away from each other but then my robot had problems turning so i pushed them closer together but there was only a very small gap between each wheel which worked great but didn't help me when i was being pushed out of the ring.

i did come across some problems of how to program the light sensor but to get the best result i positioned the light sensor in 3 different places and tested them to see which one worked the best for my robot. i stuck with the one at the center front (as you can see on the pics of my robot). because it obviously saw the white light and turned away.

 I also had trouble with the ultrasonic sensor working properly so i tested it in 2 different positions again to get the best result. the 1st position was on the top at the back which didn't work very well the 2nd position was at the front which was attached to the light sensor which was a problem because if the opponent attacked my light sensor then my ultrasonic sensor would be on a slight angle facing the ground which would be problem because then my robot would only see them if they were even closer and would hinder my chances of winning. so i reinforced the ultrasonic sensor to hopefully stop it from doing so but in a couple of the fights the reinforcement didn't work as planned and broke off a couple of times but i was already in the competition and it was to late to change it so i stuck with it.

finishing up my blog 1


i chose the ultrasonic and light sensor for my robot this is the programming i did for my robot. i didn't know how to do the programming very well so i use the trial and error method to help me program my robot.

the lowdown

basically i came third equal josh's robot came second and krystie's robot came first by drawing twice and winning 7 times i won two matches and drew once. The sumo competition was fun and i really enjoyed it although i needed some help a couple of times i pulled through and hopefully will pass the asessment

yeah i came third lol in 3 periods i built and programmed a brand new robot although the design was budget i won a couple of matches i will upload pics as soon as it lets me

I am struggling to come up with a new design for my robot. If I don't get one soon I will miss out of the 5 credits on offer and that would suck big time.

My Project

I am starting to build my lego Mindstorms robot for the big sumo competition at the end of the term. Today I will be building the chassis and installing the motors.
